Day & Night

“I bought a house with a small garden which had overgrown flowerbeds and more weeds than grass. It has since been transformed by Alexandra, who designed and drew plans for a courtyard garden with flowerbeds, a pergola, a garage, a deck and space for pots. It lights up at dusk with LED lights and I am delighted with it. Alexandra found the right builder, oversaw the work and helped source plants. I am very pleased with the result and recommend her highly.”

The client had recently downsized to a new house and wanted to completely renovate the outside space.

The design of the house meant that the whole enclosed garden was visible from the bifold doors of the open plan kitchen and dining room, so it was important to create a space that benefitted both the inside and the outside. The client was also keen to add additional storage with the construction of a new garage, which I designed for planning and construction, and to hide the existing oil tank.

As the garden was not large and the client was not a keen gardener, I created a design that focused on attractive and useable seating areas, although as the planting went in, the client’s gardening interest seemed to grow.

A new pergola provided shade and a home for climbers, while also deflecting from the presence of the garage. During the design and build process, I worked closely with the client and landscaper to design a bespoke water feature and introduce lighting, all with a limited palette of quality materials.

The result was a garden that was lovely to sit in, but also looked great from inside the house, day and night.
