Light & Soundscape

“Having recently completed a lifetime ambition to build our own home, a key consideration for us was the garden design and the way the house would interact with the outside. Alexandra designed and project managed the landscaping and planting programme, which surpassed all expectations. We would have been lost without Alex’s knowledge and vision. The garden looks amazing during the first growing season and we look forward to watching it mature.”

The clients had fulfilled a lifelong dream of designing and building their own home. With backgrounds in property and interior design, they were hugely passionate about the project and knew just how important it was to create an outdoor space that would sit beautifully within the landscape, and make the most of both the view and the uninterrupted sounds of nature.

In addition to wanting an outdoor space that would complement their contemporary home, have interest year-round and not involve too much maintenance, the clients also needed the space to be completely wheelchair accessible.

Having been brought in early on in the planning process, I worked with the clients to create a garden design that fit beautifully with the architect’s plans and met planning requirements. This included a planting plan, construction drawings and an electrical plan. I was then on side to support the clients through the whole process of creating the garden, including liaising with the construction team and various suppliers, offering ongoing advice and introducing them to a gardener to help maintain the space.

The result was a delightful garden designed to evolve from season to season. The space makes the most of the light from the large western skies and of the sound of trees and wildlife. It is equally enjoyable when immersed in it as when looking out from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
